Special Education Services Survey
Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) requires states to report the percent of parents with a child receiving special education services who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities. The Iowa Department of Education is gathering this data as a census for both students with and without a disability using a four-question survey. We are asking you to please complete this 4 question survey.
2018-2019 Survey Letter to Parents - AEA 7
As many of you know, Jim Harken has been fighting the good fight against cancer. He recently had his second surgery to remove cancerous tissue.
As a supportive St. Matthew community, we would like to help the Harken family during this time of need. Mary has said they will have family in town helping to prepare meals and help with the kids so we would like to shower them with gift cards. We will be collecting gift cards for things such as groceries, restaurants and gas and any other cards you would like to include. Please drop them by the main office and make sure your envelope is clearly marked.
Jim is the father of Lucas in 2nd grade, Michael in 1st grade and Dominick in Kindergarten. His wife Mary is the Director of Development at Xavier High School. Jim and Mary have touched many of our lives and the lives of our children. We wish Jim a speedy recovery.

Farewell to Mrs. Globokar
While Beth Globokar isn't going very far, she is leaving her position as principal at Regis Middle School. Help us bid her a fond farewell by joining us on Thursday, May 23, 3:30 - 5:30 pm at Regis Middle School, as we recognize and thank Mrs. Globokar for her many years of service in Catholic education!
Own a Piece of Regis History!
With the upcoming replacement of the historic wooden bleachers in the Regis Middle School gymnasium, and in an effort to preserve a part of that history, Regis has enlisted the help of Kory Helgens of Spring Run Designs in Marion, to create some beautiful memorabilia pieces from the wood. He has crafted a cross, spoon, cheese board and canoe paddle. If you attended the Royal T Night fundraiser, you got a sneak preview of them; if not, they are available in the Regis Main Office if you’d like to see them. We are taking pre-orders through May 3rd for anyone interested. You may access the Google Form found
to see pictures, get pricing information and let us know what you'd like to purchase. Please contact Dianne at
or 363-1968 if you have questions. Thank you!
Message from the Principal
Assistant Principal for the Day -
Today Grant got to enjoy his special day as Assistant Principal. The morning started with his favorite donut (Dunkin Donuts vanilla with sprinkles) and morning announcements! Morning rounds were made as he checked out each of the classrooms and left a note for the teacher. Grant will also led us in a tornado drill and had lunch with his buddies in the Principal's office. Mr. Haverback will end his day--which also happens to be his birthday--with the Mardi Gras Kids First fundraiser! It was a pretty amazing day with a great helper! Happy Birthday, Grant!
Essentials Team Highlight
In PE we finished up raising money for the American Heart Association and working on fitness to better our hearts in all grades--not just 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. We will be honoring the students and having an assembly towards the last week of school. Next, we are working on Rainbow Day activities to make that day as fun as possible. The older grades will also be fitness testing starting the 20th so please remind students to have a good breakfast, drink lots of water, and wear good shoes. The younger grades will be going outside and going over rules of outdoor games like tee ball/baseball, kick ball, and other fun outdoor activities. I look forward to all the fun activities coming up shortly! As always keep moving and getting your sweat on!
