Future Saints Night - St. Matthew Tailgate Night
St. Matthew has the tradition of holding a tailgate night at the Xavier football game. We are the only Xavier Catholic School that has this awesome tradition that allows for fun and fellowship among the Jaguar families and students. It is an amazing event for you to come out and meet the new and returning faces of St. Matthew.
: Friday, October 18th
: Xavier High School (at the end of the parking lot near the soccer fields and the football ticket entrance) - look for tents!
: Food and drink (hot dogs and hamburgers with family supplied sides) and fellowship, some tailgate games and space to run! Parents please remember to keep an eye on your kids!
Thank you to Nick and Genie Maybanks for the donation of virtual reality goggles for our school.
This concept was introduced at the Board of Education meeting last night and as you can tell, we had a ton of fun visiting St. Peter's Cathedral, while also taking a ride on a roller coaster and on a journey into the edge of space.
We will be working with GrantWood AEA to obtain the remaining components and begin utilizing these in the classroom. I anticipate the student reaction to utilizing this awesome technology.
The cast (3rd, 4th and 5th graders) for the Night Shift Before Christmas has been announced and posted on the main office windows. Students will be able to check this out prior to going home. Later this week an announcement will be posted on Seesaw for those who are not able to see the list posted here.
The next Parent Association Meeting is Monday, October 21st at 5:30 in Kearn Hall. Please join us!
Thank you to all who participated in our recent Box Tops contest. We earned $305.40 for what we collected. We also have another $54.40 in scanned Box Tops receipts! Keep saving the tops and keep scanning receipts!

Tax Credit Too Good to be True?
Not at all. If you file an Iowa Income Tax Return, your contributions to the
Our Faith School Tuition Organization
(STO) receive a 65% tax credit. That means for every $1000 you donate, you receive an Iowa income tax credit of $650, which reduces your Iowa tax liability by $650. In addition, your gift may qualify for federal deductibility. And that gift you made? It helps make a Catholic school education affordable for every child, regardless of their families’ financial situation. It really is that simple. Visit
or call the Archdiocese of Dubuque at 800-876-3546 ext. 219 or 307 to learn more.

Message from the Principal
Just a friendly reminder:
As a Catholic School, it is our mission to support each and every child at our school. We believe our students are children of God and created in his unique likeness. Therefore we meet Jesus each day when our students walk through the school door. Focusing on the good that is happening while addressing each student’s areas of growth, we can make a difference in the lives of our children and their classmates. If you have questions or concerns, please know that I am here to listen and partner with each of you in the faith and academic education of your child.
Essentials Team Highlight
In music, we have had a great start on our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Christmas musical. The kids are really enjoying our show! Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades will be starting to look at our Christmas music. If anyone has connections that would allow us to use a sound system for our concerts, please let Mrs. Bunge know at
In PE it's skating time! Don't forget if you want to help with putting on skates, the sign up is still available. Please remember that skates are higher than most shoes, so we encourage you to be mindful about sock choices. With that, if tights are being worn, please bring an extra pair of socks so the skates stay on securely.
We had 5th grade Art Club this week, and we made our October Halloween trees.
