You will find a document that outlines the calendar and how we are being called to serve others, in our case how we are able to help the Metro Catholic Outreach center. Additionally, a prayer for each day of Advent is also included; we will be using these at school but also encourage you to use them at home as well. A copy of each of these documents went home in students take home folders today.

There will be a table outside the main office for book donations.

What’s this STO all about?
Your donation to Our Faith School Tuition Organization (STO) gives the gift of a Catholic School education to Iowa families who otherwise would struggle to make this dream a reality. With this gift, families have the ability to choose the educational setting that best meets the needs of their children regardless of their income. If you file an Iowa income tax return, your contributions to the STO qualify for a 65% tax credit and may qualify for a federal charitable deduction. Visit
or call the Archdiocese of Dubuque at 800-876-3546 ext. 219 or 307 to learn more.

The Angel of Hope Statue at Xavier is a beautiful symbol of hope for all grieving the loss of a child. This Advent season we are called to pray for everyone seeking hope and light through their days. Please join us on December 6th at 7 p.m. as we pray for hope, light, and grace this Advent season for all those in need. The prayer service will last approximately 30 minutes. This is an outdoor event so dress warm.
Message from the Principal
The events happening around us on a daily basis require that we take a number of precautions to ensure the safety of the St. Matthew community. As communicated last Friday, we held our lockdown (or otherwise known as "hide" drill) on Tuesday. To execute this drill most effectively and to help prepare students, I reminded students of our activity and what we would be doing. After a short reminder, students then practiced their hiding position. While it saddens me that these are the types of things we have to talk about and practice in school, I can tell you that the students did an excellent job following directions. I shared this with them multiple times on Tuesday as well. Thanks for your partnership in these conversations.
Essentials Team Highlight
In PE, we are finishing up our fitness unit. The students have done a great job working hard. As always keep on moving and getting your sweat on!
We are doing great work on our Christmas concert music, and can't wait to perform for you! The JK, K, 1, 2 grades will perform on Thursday, December 5, from 6:00-6:30PM, and the 3, 4, 5 grades will perform the musical "The Night Shift Before Christmas" on Thursday, December 5, from 7:00-8:00PM. See you then!
Many of the classes are starting paper mache projects. We are still collecting 3" or 4" glass jars and newspapers for upcoming projects.
